MASTER´S THESIS

The Master’s Thesis is a compulsory subject worth 12 ECTS credits (equivalent to 90 hours of student work). It represents the final academic activity of the Master in Oil & Natural Gas Value Chain and aims to integrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme.

The Master’s Thesis consists of an individual, descriptive and bibliographic study, focused on a topic related to the Oil & Gas sector, which may belong to downstream, upstream, logistics, markets, economics, or related areas. The work must be based on advanced scientific and technical literature, including peer-reviewed articles, books, standards, patents and authoritative industrial reports.

The thesis must follow a specific structure, format and presentation style, in accordance with the official regulations of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and the guidelines provided by the Master’s programme. Students are required to use the official templates and comply with all formal requirements. The maximum length of the written thesis is 50 pages, excluding appendices.

Students are expected to demonstrate:

  • Capacity to search, select and analyse high-quality technical information
  • Understanding of engineering concepts and industrial practices
  • Ability to structure, synthesise and communicate technical content clearly in English

The Master’s Thesis must show technical depth, critical analysis and professional relevance.

The work is developed under the supervision of a faculty member and concludes with an oral defence before an Evaluation Committee.
