General information
- The programme is structured according to the European Credit Transfer System, with 7.5 hours per ECTS.
- The Master comprises a total of 60 ECTS, equivalent to 450 hours.
- The Master’s Thesis accounts for 12 ECTS (90 hours).
- The remaining 48 ECTS (360 hours) correspond to theoretical classes, laboratory sessions, process simulation practices and technical visits.
- The first edition of the programme has taken place in the 2025–2026 academic year.
- The language of instruction is English.
- Teaching is delivered in person at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences.
- The application period is open for the 2026–2027 academic year.
- The number of available places is limited to 20 new students per edition.
Summary
- The Master starts with the hydrocarbon reservoir geology (UPSTREAM) to provide a thorough understanding of the oil and gas lifecycle, including geological characterization, exploration, production of the first hydrocarbons. It includes field trips to high quality geological exposures.
- DOWNSTREAM is the processing of crude oil and natural gas to produce fossil energy sources and petrochemicals. It includes experimental practices on distillation, extraction and products characterization; as well as simulation practices to design the main refinery operations. The program is completed with visits.
- The operation at industrial level and the most practical aspects on the business are covered by Senior Professionals from Repsol, Moeve, Enagas & Técnicas Reunidas, among others.
