Dr. Mateusz Pietraszek is an Assistant Professor of English Linguistics at the Complutense University of Madrid. He holds a PhD in English Linguistics from the Complutense University, an MA in Spanish Linguistics from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and a joint BA+MA in Spanish Philology from the Jagiellonian University of Krakow, where he also obtained his official teaching qualification. He additionally holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Translation and Linguistics from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Before joining UCM, he worked as a lecturer and assistant professor at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Madrid. He has over 15 years of university teaching experience, lecturing in English Phonetics and Phonology, Applied Linguistics, Introduction to English Linguistics, General English, and English for Specific Purposes across more than 20 degree programmes. He is also an accredited DELE examiner for the Instituto Cervantes.

His research interests lie primarily in phonetics and phonology, with a particular focus on intelligibility and attitudes towards pronunciation in English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), both within higher education and in broader contexts. He has also worked on comparative morphosyntax, including Differential Object Marking (DOM) in Romance and Slavic languages, as well as the role of critical thinking, assessment and feedback in tertiary education.His passion for languages and pronunciation underpins both his research and teaching, reflecting his commitment to fostering effective and fair communication. An avid language learner, he speaks seven languages, including English, Spanish, Polish, French, Catalan, German, and Esperanto, and is a member of the International Hyperpolyglot Association (HYPIA).

Es doctor en Lingüística Inglesa por la UCM, máster en Lingüística Hispánica por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y licenciado en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad Jaguelónica de Cracovia, donde también obtuvo la su diploma de aptitud pedagógica. Asimismo, cuenta con un posgrado en Traducción y Lingüística por la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Antes de incorporarse a la UCM, fue profesor ayudante y ayudante doctor en la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid). Tiene más de 15 años de experiencia docente en el ámbito universitario, donde ha impartido asignaturas de Fonética y Fonología Inglesas, Lingüística Aplicada, Introducción a la Lingüística Inglesa, Inglés General e Inglés para Fines Específicos en más de 20 titulaciones. Además, es examinador acreditado del DELE por el Instituto Cervantes.

Sus principales líneas de investigación se centran en la fonética y la fonología, con especial atención a la inteligibilidad y a las actitudes hacia la pronunciación en el inglés como lingua franca (ELF), tanto en la enseñanza universitaria como en contextos más amplios. También ha trabajado en morfosintaxis comparada, en particular en el Marcado Diferencial de Objeto (MDO) en lenguas romances y eslavas, así como en el pensamiento crítico, la evaluación y el feedback en la educación superior. Su pasión por las lenguas y la pronunciación guía tanto su investigación como su docencia, reflejando un compromiso constante con una comunicación eficaz y justa. Habla siete idiomas —inglés, español, polaco, francés, catalán, alemán y esperanto— y es miembro de la International Hyperpolyglot Association (HYPIA).
