Fani Hatjina

Dr. Fani Hatjina is a biologist with a PhD on Pollination. She graduated from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki- Greece and undertook her Diploma and PhD studies in University of Wales College of Cardiff- UK. She has been working as a
researcher in Department of Apiculture of ELGO 'DIMITRA' in Greece since 2000 and since 2018 she is also serving as
Director of the Institute of Animal Science and Department of Apiculture. Fani is a Council member of International Bee Research
Association (IBRA) since 2007, and Chair of IBRA Council since October 2022. Coordinator of the APIMONDIA Working group "Adverse effects of pesticides and veterinary medicines on bees". She is also the Chair of the Scientific Commission for Bee Health of the APIMONDIA Federation for a second mandate. She has about 70 published research articles, over 130 presentations in
conferences and as many popular articles. Fani is also the Scientific Coordinator of 16 research Greek and Europeans research projects, a collaborating expert with European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and representative of Greece in OECD for bee related toxicology
groups. Main research interests: bee breeding, breeding for resistance to Varroa, conservation of local breeds, effects of pesticides on bee's behaviour and physiology, biological control of diseases, and promoting apiculture through ‘Apitourism’. At present she is the coordinator of a PRIMA- Mediterranean Collaboration project entitled “Safeguarding agroecosystem
resilience under climate change through efficient pollination and sustainable beekeeping
[SafeAgroBee].
