Article Review and New Reviewers

Article Review

Every article submitted to the journal will be run through the anti-plagiarism system Turnitin. It is crucial to properly cite all sources used and include a bibliography. Any use of other texts without proper citation and/or bibliography will be considered plagiarism and will result in immediate rejection. After confirming that the articles are free of plagiarism, the articles will undergo a pre-review by our Editorial Team. We will check whether the article meets the journal's criteria and the format indicated in the style guide.

Once the pre-review process is complete, the articles will be anonymously peer-reviewed. Each author will receive two anonymous reports informing them whether the article will be published without modifications, with modifications, or if we recommend not publishing it. The evaluation is double-blind, i.e. the reviewers do not know the identity of the authors of the articles, and the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.

This decision cannot be appealed, and the journal must uphold the reviewers' verdict to achieve the most objective review process possible.

Information for New Reviewers

If you are a PhD student with a background in Literary Theory and/or Comparative Literature and wish to join our reviewing team, please send an email to infoalaeste@ucm.es with the subject heading "Review Team".

Additionally, please write from your institutional email account and provide the following information in the email body:

  • Full name and university
  • One to three specialties in the realm of Literary Theory and/or Comparative Literature (e.g., "social criticism", "literary language theory", "fiction theory"...)
  • At least one or two literary periods that you are knowledgeable about (e.g., "Antiquity", "Renaissance", "Postmodernity"...)
  • Literary genres you are knowledgeable about (you can provide more than one): lyric, narrative, theater, and/or essays.

It is mandatory to attach proof of enrollment from the same year.

The Editorial Team will provide reviewers with instructions on the reviewing criteria to ensure that the report is properly written and meets the journal's standards and criteria.

Once the reviewer has peer-reviewed the article, they will receive a certificate as proof of their contribution to the journal's issue.

Finally, to ensure the quality of Ala Este's process, reviewers must keep in mind that being a reviewer for an issue does not mean they will be able to submit articles as an author in the same issue.
