Oceans For Future

Proyecto OFF

The OceansForFuture (OFF) project aims primarily to develop advanced ocean climate services that enable anticipation of climate change impacts on key sectors such as energy, health, and marine ecosystems, particularly in the Mediterranean and North Africa. One of its main goals is to develop and implement a decision-support tool, based on a model chain, capable of detecting sources of climate predictability at seasonal and interannual scales under both current and future scenarios. Additionally, the project seeks to assess, using observations and historical climate models, the teleconnections driven by sea surface temperatures (SST) in the tropics and their influence on the Mediterranean region.

Another core objective of the project is to analyze how these teleconnections affect specific case studies related to renewable energy production, the spread of climate-sensitive diseases, and the productivity of marine ecosystems. Finally, OFF is firmly committed to scientific communication and the transfer of knowledge to society and stakeholders, promoting a gender perspective and encouraging vocations in STEM disciplines. In this way, the project seeks to facilitate better adaptation to climate change through applicable science and accessible decision-making tools.
