Ruth Ferrero-Turrión es Profesora de Ciencia Política y Estudios Europeos en el Departamento de Ciencia Política y de la Administración. Es Investigadora Adscrita en el Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales en la Universidad Complutense (ICEI-UCM) donde dirige los Diplomas Migraciones y Relaciones Internacionales y Las políticas de inmigración y asilo de la UE. Forma parte del Grupo de Investigación Complutense GEMI de Migraciones Internacionales, del grupo Aplicación del Derecho Internacional (APLIDERINT) y del grupo Política y Gobierno de la UE (UAM). Ha sido Premio Europeo de Investigación Carlos V 2019 por la Fundación Europea e Iberoamericana de Yuste y Non-Visegrad Fellow de V4 Think Tank Platform en 2018.
Tiene un Doctorado Internacional en Ciencia Política y Relaciones Internacionales por la UCM y un MPhil en Estudios de Europa del Este (UNED), licenciatura en Ciencias Políticas y Sociología por las universidades Complutense y Newcastle upon Tyne, un Postgrado en Ciencia Política y Derecho Constitucional en el Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales, así como un Diploma de Especialización en Unión Europea otorgado por la Escuela Diplomática.
Tiene concedidos tres sexenios de investigación, dos quinquenios y seis trienios.
Además de sus tareas como profesora, desarrolla su trabajo profesional como consultora con instituciones y organizaciones como FIIAP, European Training Foundation, Migration Policy Group, Migration Policy Institute, Instrategies, y OIM entre otros.
Ha sido Research Fellow en la Universidad de Columbia (2001-2003), en London School of Economics (2000), Babes-Bolyai University (1999), Hungarian Institute of International Relations (1996) y Open Society Foundation de Sofia (1997), Senior Fellow del Institute of International Relations (IIR) de Praga (2018), Research Fellow en la Universidad de Leipzig (2022) y Visiting Fellow en Leibniz ScienceCampus de la Universidad de Regensburg (2024). También ha sido Profesora Visitante en las Universidades de Ruhr Universität-Bochum (2015), Universidade de Coimbra (2018), Uniwersytet Warszawski (2019), Universitá Degli Studi Firenze (2022) y Science Po Toulousse (2025).
La docencia que imparte es sobre Política y Gobierno de la UE y Política Comparada. Sus áreas de especialización son la Política Europea, con especial atención al espacio post- soviético. proceso de ampliación y estado de derecho, y las Políticas de Inmigración y Asilo. Ha colaborado en diversos proyectos relacionados con estado de derecho, políticas de ampliación y vecindad oriental de la UE, minorías nacionales, políticas de inmigración y control de fronteras, así como en múltiples congresos, workshops y seminarios nacionales e internacionales.
Ha trabajado en labores de asesoría política en el marco de la Administración General del Estado, en el Gabinete del Ministro de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales (2004-2006) y en el Gabinete del Presidente del Gobierno (2006-2011). En ambos puestos desempeñó funciones relacionadas con políticas migratorias y políticas europeas sectoriales.
Colabora como analista de política internacional y europea en prensa escrita (Público, Infolibre, El País), radio (RNE y Cadena Ser) y televisión (RTVE, La Sexta, DW, Aljazeera) y en think tanks nacionales (Real Instituto Elcano, Fundación Alternativas) e internacionales (Migration Policy Institute, Institute of International Relations Prague).

Associate Professor of Political Science at the Complutense University of Madrid and Associate Researcher at the Complutense Institute for International Studies (ICEI), PhD
Ruth Ferrero-Turrión is Associate Professor of Political Science and European Studies in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. She is an Affiliated Researcher at the Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI-UCM) at the Complutense University of Madrid, where she directs the diploma programmes *Migration and International Relations* and *EU Immigration and Asylum Policies*. She is a member of the Complutense Research Group on International Migration (GEMI), the *Application of International Law* research group (APLIDERINT), and the *EU Politics and Governance* research group at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). She was awarded the Carlos V European Research Prize in 2019 by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and was a Non-Visegrad Fellow of the V4 Think Tank Platform in 2018.
She holds an International PhD in Political Science and International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), an MPhil in East European Studies from the National University of Distance Education (UNED), and degrees in Political Science and Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid and Newcastle upon Tyne University. She also completed postgraduate studies in Political Science and Constitutional Law at the Centre for Political and Constitutional Studies and holds a Diploma of Specialisation in European Union Studies awarded by the Diplomatic School of Spain.
She has been awarded three six-year research assessment periods (*sexenios*), two five-year teaching assessment periods (*quinquenios*), and six three-year seniority increments (*trienios*).
In addition to her academic duties, she works as a consultant for institutions and organisations such as FIIAPP, the European Training Foundation, the Migration Policy Group, the Migration Policy Institute, Instrategies, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), among others.
She has held research fellowships at Columbia University (2001–2003), the London School of Economics (2000), Babeș-Bolyai University (1999), the Hungarian Institute of International Relations (1996), and the Open Society Foundation in Sofia (1997). She was Senior Fellow at the Institute of International Relations (IIR) in Prague (2018), Research Fellow at Leipzig University (2022), and Visiting Fellow at the Leibniz ScienceCampus of the University of Regensburg. (2024). She has also been a Visiting Professor at Ruhr University Bochum (2015), the University of Coimbra (2018), the University of Warsaw (2019), the University of Florence (2022), and Sciences Po Toulouse (2025).
Her teaching focuses on EU Politics and Governance and Comparative Politics. Her areas of expertise include European politics, with particular emphasis on the post-Soviet space, the EU enlargement process and the rule of law, as well as immigration and asylum policies. She has participated in numerous projects related to the rule of law, EU enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood policies, national minorities, immigration policies, and border management, and has contributed to numerous national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars.
She has worked as a political adviser within the Spanish General State Administration, serving in the Office of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs (2004–2006) and in the Office of the Prime Minister of Spain (2006–2011). In both positions, she was responsible for matters related to migration policies and sectoral European policies.
She regularly contributes as an analyst of international and European affairs to print media (Público, Infolibre, El País), radio (RNE and Cadena SER), and television (RTVE, La Sexta, DW, and Al Jazeera), as well as to national think tanks such as the Real Instituto Elcano and Fundación Alternativas, and international institutions including the Migration Policy Institute and the Institute of International Relations Prague.
She serves on the Editorial Boards of *Política Exterior* and *Papeles de Europa*.
