Activity document and Research Plan

In general, in the PhD Programme in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, the provisions of Article 11 of R.D 99/2011 (modified by RD576/2023), which regulates doctoral studies as well as the UCM's own regulations that develop this decree, will be applied for the supervision of doctoral thesis and monitoring of the doctoral student.

The Academic Commission of the programme will evaluate annually the research plan and the document of activities together with the reports to be issued by the director and the tutor to this end (tutor report) (director report). These documents must be sent by e-mail to the Academic Commission (dbbm@ucm.es).

Positive evaluation will be a prerequisite to continue in the programme. In the event that the Academic Commission detects significant deficiencies, it may request that the PhD candidate present a new research plan within six months. For this purpose, it will be a prerequisite that the student carries out the required enrolment. In the event that the weaknesses remain, the Academic Commission must issue a reasoned report and the PhD candidate will be permanently removed from the programme.

UCM E-mail account

Students must obtain the UCM e-mail address that gives access, as a user, to the University's online academic and administrative services, including access to RAPI2 (computer application for the Registration of Activities and Research Plan). To do so, they must activate the @ucm.es account by entering the activation code that will be sent to them in the admission letter. This e-mail address provides students with a secure electronic mailbox where they will receive all communications and notifications from the University, both academic and administrative, which will take effect from the moment of access to its content or 10 days after it is sent, so it is recommended that it be consulted regularly.

Document of Activities of the PhD Candidate

The PhD candidate's activities document is the individualized record to monitor and control his activities within the programme. The Thesis Director and the tutor will review this document and sign it. The Academic Commission will evaluate it annually. At the UCM, support will be provided electronically using the RAPI2 web application. The PhD candidate must record the activities to be carried out each academic year, related to his programme, during his stay in the PhD programme (video tutorial).

Research Plan

Before the end of the first year, the PhD candidate will draw up a research plan that will include at least the methodology to be used and the objectives to be achieved, as well as the means and time planning to achieve them. This plan may be improved and detailed throughout the permanence in the programme and must be endorsed by the director and the tutor.

RAPI2 web application

Access to the Activities Document and Research Plan in the RAPI2 application can be found in the Academic Management portal at the following address: https://geaportal.ucm.es/. In it the RAPI icon must be clicked and then the student must identify himself. Access to the document is obtained by selecting the "Activities Document and Research Plan" tab.

Each academic year a Calendar of Joint Evaluation of the Doctoral Student's Activity Document and Research Plan will be established with the deadline for modifying the activities document and the Research Plan in the RAPI2 application. It should be noted that the information collected in RAPI2 is the only one that will be taken into consideration when depositing the Doctoral Thesis. You can consult the calendar in the following link: https://www.ucm.es/doctoral-school/2021-2022-academic

Documents that the PhD student should send to PDBBMBiomed@ucm.es

The Academic Commission of the Doctoral Programme recommends having an updated Word document with all the merits (CV). For the annual evaluation a single pdf is requested with complete information, the corresponding justifications and signed with the approval of the tutor and director/s (template for the training activities document).
This document should include publications, attendance at conferences/seminars (indicating at least the title of the talk, speaker and place), courses attended, attendance at congresses, mobility activities and any other activity that the doctoral student wishes to be included in his or her dossier.

It is also advisable to have the Research Plan in Word format indicating:

  1. Title of the thesis, tutor and director/s as well as the place where the thesis will be carried out.
  2. Aspects that are requested in RAPI2:
    • Methodology to be used
      Objectives to be achieved
      Means to be used
Temporal planning of the research plan
Other" section (where the background of the work should be collected)
