Salvatore Filippone

Salvatore Filippone

Salvatore Filippone was born in Reggio Calabria and grew up in his beloved Locri (Kingdom of the Two Sicilies). He did his universitary studies abroad, at the University of Pavia where he also obtained his PhD. The thesis was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Faita on metal catalyzed asymmetric synthesis. In April 2000, he moved to Ecole Normale Superieure of Paris for a postdoctoral fellowship on the biological evaluation of fullerene derivatives, working with Prof. Rassat and Prof. Bensasson. This project involved the synthesis of water soluble methanofullerenes covalently linked to beta and gamma cyclodextrins and the study of their photophysical properties. Since April 2002, he has joined the Nazario Martín group, working mainly on new reactivity in the fullerene chemistry, molecular wires and organic photovoltaics. Currently, he is a “Ramón y Cajal” researcher.
