Researchers present advances in wind turbine control at the XLVI Automatic Control Conference 2025

15 ene 2026 - 11:51 CET

During the 46th Conference on Automation, held in Cartagena from September 3rd to 5th, 2025, Eduardo Muñoz Palomeque and Matilde Santos (members of the Institute of Knowledge Technology (ITC-UCM)) and Enrique Sierra García (professor at the University of Burgos) presented their research entitled “Hybrid ISC-DSC Neural Control for Maximum Energy Extraction in Offshore Wind Turbines.”

In their presentation, the authors introduced an innovative control strategy for 1.5 MW floating offshore wind turbines, focused on maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The proposal combines hybrid ISC-DSC neural control, in which a neural network trained with an indirect speed control scheme is integrated with a direct control system to close the loop. Through computer simulations under complex wind and wave conditions, the authors demonstrated that their controller improves energy production compared to a conventional control system, without significantly impacting the movement of the floating structure.
