Isabel Álvarez es Catedrática de Economía Aplicada en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Doctora en Economía por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y Master en Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad por la European Science Society and Technology Association. Innovación y desarrollo, transferencia de conocimiento y empresas internacionales, son algunos de sus principales temas de investigación. Autora de más de 90 publicaciones (artículos, libros y capítulos de libros), ha participado en numerosos proyectos de investigación y ha sido consultora para instituciones de ámbito nacional e internacional. Es Coordinadora del Doctorado en Economía y Gestión de la Innovación, y Vocal del Consejo Asesor de Asuntos Económicos, Vicepresidencia Primera y Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos y Transformación Digital. Ha sido Associated Researcher en el Weatherhead Center for Internacional Affairs, Universidad de Harvard, y Visiting Scholar en la Universidad de Rutgers (New Jersey, USA). Desde enero de 2016 es Directora del Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales (ICEI) de la UCM; también dirige el Grupo de Investigación Empresas y Mercados Internacionales (INTBM) en la UCM y es investigadora principal del proyecto europeo Catching up along the global value chain: models, determinants and policy implications in the era of the fourth industrial revolution (H2020-MSCA-RISE-2017).
