Doctora en Economía Política Internacional por la Universidad de Manchester, Reino Unido. Magíster en Economía Política Internacional por la Universidad de Manchester, Reino Unido. Licenciada en Política por la Universidad de Sheffield, Reino Unido.

En la actualidad es investigadora asociada en el Área de Género del Instituto Complutense de Estudios Internacionales.

También trabaja como consultora del Centro de Capacitación de ONU Mujeres, donde gestiona la Comunidad de Práctica en Capacitación para la Igualdad de Género.  Además de la consultoría, tiene un interés en el tema de la transferencia de los conocimientos feministas. En julio de 2014 se publicó ‘‘Esta es nuestra persona de género: el desastroso negocio de ser un experto en género en desarrollo internacional” en Revista Internacional Feminista de Política y actualmente está co-editando un libro La Política de Transferencia de Conocimiento Feminista: Una Reflexión Crítica en Capacitación y Experiencia en Género, que se publicará en la series Género y Políticas de Palgrave.

El otro interés principal de investigación de Lucy Ferguson es el ámbito de género y desarrollo, enfocado específicamente en el sector turístico. Ha publicado ampliamente sobre este campo – entre otros, ‘Género y Turismo Sostenible: Reflexiones de la Teoría y la Práctica’, (con Daniela Moreno Alarcón), Revista de Turismo Sostenible, septiembre 2014; ‘Promoviendo equidad de género and empoderando a las mujeres?  Turismo y las Metas del Desarrollo del Tercer Milenio’, Asuntos Actuales en Turismo, abril 2011; ‘Desarrollo turístico y la reestructuración de  la reproducción social en Centro América’, Revista of Economía Política Internacional, noviembre 2010; ‘Interrogando el ‘género’ en políticas y prácticas de desarrollo: el Banco Mundial, turismo y microempresas en Honduras’, Revista Internacional Feminista de Política, enero 2010.

Además de su interés académico, Lucy ha trabajado en asesoría en el tema de género y turismo, colaborando como consultora en la Organización Mundial de Turismo de las Naciones Unidas (UNWTO) desde 2010. Participó en la redacción del Informe Mundial de las Mujeres en el Turismo de la OMT y ONU Mujeres, diseño el Programa de Empoderamiento de Mujeres y Turismo y elaboró los Líneas de actuación de la Transversalidad de Género para Administraciones de Turismo Nacional.

En 2011 fundó junta con varias compañeras Igualdad en Turismo, una organización sin fines de lucro con el fin de generar la igualdad de género en el sector turístico. Con esta organización ha impartido formaciones sobre la igualdad de género en empresas turísticas como Kuoni Travel y ResponsibleTravel.com. Además se han publicado varios documentos tal como el informe Sol, Arena and Techos: Mujeres a bordo de la Industria Turística.

Also works as a Consultant for the UN Women Training Centre, where she manages the Community of Practice in Training for Gender Equality. As well as working as a consultant in this area, Lucy also has a strong research interest in the theme of feminist knowledge transfer. En July 2014 she published ‘‘This is our gender person’: the messy business of being a gender expert in international development’ in International Feminist Journal of Politics and is currently co-editing a book on The Politics of Feminist Knowledge Transfer: A Critical Reflection on Gender Training and Gender Expertise, which will be published in Palgrave’s Gender and Politics series.

Lucy’s other principal research area is in gender and development, with a specific focus on the tourism sector. She has published widely on this theme – including ‘Gender and Sustainable Tourism: Reflections on Theory and Practice’, (with Daniela Moreno Alarcón), Journal of Sustainable Tourism, September 2014; ‘Promoting gender equality and empowering women?  Tourism and the third Millennium Development Goal’, Current Issues in Tourism, April 2011; ‘Tourism development and the restructuring of social reproduction in Central America’, Review of International Political Economy, November 2010; ‘Interrogating ‘gender’ in development policy and practice: the World Bank, tourism and microenterprise in Honduras’, International Feminist Journal of Politics, January 2010.

As well as being an academic interest, Lucy has worked as an advisor on the topic of gender and tourism, collaborating with the United Nations World Tourism Organization as a gender consultant since 2010. During this time, she has participating in the editing of the UNWTO/UN Women Global Report on Women in Tourism, designed the Women in Tourism Empowerment Programme and developed Gender Mainstreaming Guidelines for National Tourism Administrations.

En 2011 along with several colleagues she founded Equality in Tourism, a non-profit organisation with the aim of increasing gender equality in the tourism sector. With this organisation she has delivered gender training to tourism companies such as Kuoni Travel and ResponsibleTravel.com. She has also co-authored various papers and reports such as Sun, Sand and Ceilings: Women on Boards in the Tourism Industry.
