Conference in Milan on “Micro-dynamics, Catching-Up and Global Value Chains”

The CatChain project funded by the European Commission through the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions Program, of which ICEI is a member, organizes the first workshop related to the “Micro-dynamics, Catching-Up and Global Value Chains”

It will be held from 20 to 22 November 2019 at the ICRIOS-Bocconi University in Milan (Italy), coordinated by the Invernizzi Center for Research on Innovation, Organization, Strategy and Entrepreneurship (ICRIOS).

This project is especially aimed at doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers / professors. The objective of the conference is to bring to the city of Milan 5 young researchers to present and discuss their research. These should be original, that is, not published, and on topics related to micro dynamics, recovery and global value chains in Latin America, Asia or Africa.

Strong preference will be given to quantitative work that focuses on micro-level analysis of manufacturing and services activities in Emerging Economies (Latin America, Asia, Africa). Specific topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to:

  • Micro-level determinants of catching-up/productivity in manufacturing and services.

  • Micro-level performance of domestic producers, MNEs, exporting firms (export processing zones).

On the CatChain project-.

It is a project based on a multidisciplinary and multisectoral exchange program that focuses on the role of access, learning and improvement in the recovery process at the country level in different sectoral systems. It uses the value chain approach, analyzes the opportunities and challenges of industrial modernization of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the globalized economy. The project will also examine the political implications related to how institutions can institute smart specialization in research and innovation (RIS3) with respect to the new Europe 2020 agenda, especially for low-income EU countries.

Local organizing committee of the ICRIOS-Bocconi University. Juan Carlos Castillo, Franco Malerba, Roberto Mavilia and Roberta Pisani.

The CatChain project of the Invernizzi Center for Research on Innovation, Organization, Strategy and Entrepreneurship (ICRIOS) of the Bocconi University organizes a workshop on "Micro-dynamics, recovery and globalization of value chains" from November 20 to 22 in the city of Milan. This project invites doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers / professors to present research on topics related to micro dynamics, recovery and global value chains in Latin America, Asia or Africa. Of all the investigations presented, only 5 will be chosen for the presentation at Milám. Accommodation will be provided and the travel costs will be reimbursed to these researchers.

The five selected researches will be presented and discussed at the Milan workshop
