Seminars 2022-2023

During the 2022-2023 academic year, the Flamenco Masters team of the Complutense University of Madrid will organize a series of seminars dedicated to FLAMENCO. The lectures will be given by members of the faculty of the upcoming Masters of the Complutense University of Madrid.


SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

UNLEARNING THE BODY: GENDER AND DANCE IN CONTEMPORARY FLAMENCO

This wonderful scientific event will take place on Wednesday, May 22nd, at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of the Autonomous University of Madrid. It is organized by this university in collaboration with the UCM. We will have the marvelous guest speaker, Rocío Molina, National Dance Award-winning dancer, as well as the 2022 Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. With a great professional trajectory, she is a versatile dancer with a unique vision in her reinterpretation of dance.

ARTS THROUGH THE MORENTE-CARBONELL FAMILY
 
Next Thursday, September 28, in the Assembly Hall of the School of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid at 11:15 a.m., we will have the immense luck to have Soleá Morente in the seminar Arts through the Morente-Carbonell family. She needs no introduction and is one of the most established and one of the living legends of flamenco. She is part of one of the most influential families in flamenco and despite this he has a very defined personality, something that we can clearly see in her latest work Aurora y Enrique.

CARMEN CORTÉS
DRAMATIZACIÓN EN EL BAILE FLAMENCO
 
We are lucky to have bailaora Carmen Cortés next Thursday May 11 in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid at 1:00 p.m., in the Dramatization en el baile flamenco dance seminar. The artist is one of the most influential ones on the current international scene, integrating elements of jazz or contemporary dance into her dance. She is a member of the UNESCO Dance Council, and one of his latest projects ¡GIRA, CORAZÓN! BAILANDO CON LORCA EN LA EDAD DE PLATA, approaches the work of Federico García Lorca and the Silver Age in Spain through dance and dramaturgy.

JUAN MANUEL CAÑIZARES
LOS CLÁSICOS POR CAÑIZARES
 
.Juan Manuel Cañizares will visit our institution next Thursday, April 20, at the Aula Magna of the School of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid at 1:00 p.m., in the seminar Los clásicos por Cañizares. Cañizares, a flamenco guitarist recognized around the globe, has played with artists such as Paco de Lucía or Enrique Morente, but also with classical formations such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. His discography stands out for integrating personal visions of Spanish classical composers, such as Scarlatti, Granados or Manuel de Falla.

ESPERANZA FERNÁNDEZ
SE PROHÍBE EL CANTE
 
Next Friday, March 17, at the Salón de Actos of the School of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., we will have the wonderful company of Esperanza Fernández in the seminarSe prohíbe el cante. This project came to light in 2022 and originated both a record work and a documentary. Here, the cantaora has returned to flamenco clubs after going through the theaters, and has artists such as Miguel Poveda, Marina Heredia or Rocío Márquez.

EL BAILE FLAMENCO COMO CREACIÓN Y ARTE
 
Next Thursday, February 16, at the Aula Magna of the School of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid, at 1:00 p.m., we will have the pleasure of enjoying the seminar entitledEl baile flamenco como creación y arte, given by the dancer Patricia Guerrero. Recently awarded with the Spanish National Dance Award (2021), the latest recognition of a career that is destined to show us what flamenco dance has always been: contemporary.

"RAÍCES QUE VUELVEN Y ALAS QUE ARRAIGUEN" 
 
Next Thursday, December 15 (2022), at 10:00 a.m. at the Aula Magna of the School of Geography and History, the third edition of the UCM Flamenco Research Conference will begin. As part of the events held during the conference, we will have the presence of singer Carmen Linares, recently awarded the Princess of Asturias award (2022). Together with her we will go through part of her career until the achievement of said award.

II Flamenco Seminar organized by the Flamenco Master's team and the Department of Musicology of the Complutense University of Madrid.
This Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 11:30 a.m., in Classroom B21 of the School of Geography and History (UCM), we will have a first-class singer: Sandra Carrasco.
She has recorded several albums in which she shows us her knowledge on flamenco and other musical genres. Born in Huelva, but knowledgeable about the entire flamenco geography. He has collaborated with great musicians from the national and international scene, enriching his understanding and expanding his artistic horizons.
In this seminar you will tell us where your horizon is and how extensive it is.
