Background

I studied undergraduate degrees in Geology (2003-2008) and in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (2009-2014), at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). There I studied also my master’s degree in Environmental Geology and Geological Resources (2008-2009), specializing in Sedimentary Basins and Energy Resources. Between 2010 and 2015 I conducted my PhD in the Stratigraphy Department of the UCM, studying a Cretaceous mixed carbonate-siliciclastic unit from the Cameros Basin, with a significant tectonic control and a complex sedimentology, due to the coastal nature of the deposits, including both continental and marine features. During my PhD I visited some months the University of Tennessee (Knoxville, USA), collaborating with Robert Riding, and the University of Aix-Marseille (Aix-en-Provence, France), to work with Gilbert Camoin. A remarkable feature of the deposits I studied for my PhD is their unusual abundance and diversity of microbialites, which made me eager to understand better the relationships between microbial communities and sedimentary processes. Thanks to a Postdoctoral Fellowship of the Humboldt Foundation (2016-2018) I was able to study those relationships in modern, Triassic and Precambrian microbialites, working in the research group of Joachim Reitner, at the Geobiology Department of the University of Göttingen (Germany). I have been Assistant Professor at the Geology Department of the Rey Juan Carlos University (2018-2020) and currently at the Geodynamics, Stratigraphy and Paleontology Department of the UCM, where I have been able to continue my research of sedimentary deposits and processes, with special emphasis in the sedimentology of microbialites from different environments and deposits throughout the stratigraphic record.
