Good practice guide

Good Practice Guides constitute a set of recommendations and commitments for the development of doctoral theses and outlines mechanisms for the resolution of possible conflicts.

Specifically, the Late Modern and Contemporary History doctoral programme adheres to the European Charter for Researchers and a Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers [http://ec.europa.eu/euraxess/index.cfm/rights/europeanCharter]. The guiding principles outlined in the charter include intellectual freedom, adherence to ethical practice, professional responsibility (e.g. avoiding plagiarism), a professional attitude to research (seeking all necessary approvals before starting their research), contractual and legal obligations, efficient and transparent financial project management, good practice in research (e.g. making authorised back-ups of information), the co-responsibility of public institutions and research agents in ensuring the appropriate dissemination of results, the protection of personal data, compliance with regulations on the accessibility of documentation and continuing professional development. Senior researchers also have a responsibility to engage and motivate earlier-stage researchers.
