CLARIAH-ES has organized its I Summer School, entitled “Advancing the Digital Humanities in the Age of Generative AI”. This inaugural edition, which aims to become an annual event focusing on research infrastructures for the Social Sciences and Digital Humanities, centred on the importance of European infrastructures (CLARIN, DARIAH, EOSC, etc.), as well as on how to apply large language models (LLMs) in the field of the Humanities. Over the course of two days, experts from various CLARIAH-ES nodes shared case studies, methodologies and key tools to help participants learn how to incorporate these resources into their research activities. The programme was structured around three main themes: introductory presentations on the European infrastructure ecosystem, practical workshops focusing on data management in this field, and thematic sessions dedicated to the application of LLMs in the exploration of historical corpora and text analysis using distant reading techniques.

Beyond technical training, the event served as a valuable forum for debate and collaboration among researchers, technical staff and specialists from different disciplines. The conclusions drawn from these two days reflect the optimism and commitment of the CLARIAH-ES community to continue building an open, connected and accessible scientific ecosystem, equipped to tackle the challenges of the digital age in an ethical and critical manner.
