Several members of the CLARIAH-CM Node played an active role in a range of activities throughout the conference. The first, the conference “AI and Digital Humanities for Historical Press”, aimed to serve as a forum for discussing and reflecting on the challenges involved in studying historical press today, as well as exchanging ideas on historical press research from the perspectives of the humanities and computer science, in line with CLARIAH-ES’s participation in the PressMint project.

The event opened with a round table discussion involving libraries and archives, where expert librarians and archivists debated various aspects relating to the digitisation and application of Artificial Intelligence to the historical press in their collections. Almudena Caballos Villar, a member of the Digital and Web Publishing Service at the Complutense University of Madrid Library, took part in this round table. Furthermore, coordinator Dolores Romero López took part in the conference with a presentation entitled “What was sold at newsstands during the Silver Age (1868–1936)? From the physical ecosystem to digital intermediation”, in which she highlighted the importance of taking into account the press distributed at these outlets to gain an in-depth understanding of multiple aspects of the history of Spanish-language literature. These presentations, as well as the rest of the conference, have been recorded and can be viewed via this link.

Finally, the Community of Madrid node also presented a poster on the initial status of the collections from various libraries in Madrid that are to be incorporated into the interoperable corpus currently being developed by the CLARIN-ERIC project, which can be viewed on the Zenodo platform via this link.

On 21 April, meanwhile, the CLARIAH-UNED Conference was held, focusing on Digital Humanities and Language Technologies in current research. On this occasion, presentations were given by several members of CLARIAH-ES and its various Nodes. The Madrid Node had the opportunity to present the functioning and metadata of the SSH Open Marketplace, led by Elena Battaner Moro and Marina Míguez Lamanuzzi.
