The 1st CLARIAH-ES Conference on Libraries. Digital Infrastructures and Open Science, held at the Instituto Cervantes, was attended by researchers from CLARIAH-ES and professionals from national GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) institutions, who discussed the importance of Open Science in the library ecosystem and the contribution of libraries to European digital infrastructures, as well as presenting numerous projects through dynamic posters.

The CLARIAH-CM Node’s participation consisted of two presentations on the SSH Open Marketplace, given by Elena Battaner Moro and Marina Míguez Lamanuzzi respectively, and a poster presentation by Dolores Romero López on the participation of the Community of Madrid Node, and its collaborating libraries, Complutense Digital Heritage and the Madrid Digital Library, at the PressMint project, entitled “CLARIAH-CM as a Laboratory of Ideas to promote Madrid’s Historical Press: Complutense Digital Heritage and the Madrid Digital Library”.

In addition to this, María Isabel Fariñas de Alba, Head of Digital Preservation Services at the Madrid Regional Library, presented a poster on the heritage collections and research services of the Madrid Digital Library. Both posters are available for consultation on the CLARIAH-CM Community on Zenodo

Furthermore, Almudena Caballos and Paloma del Pozo, from Patrimonio Digital Complutense (PDC), also presented the results of their initiatives to make PDC’s collections more accessible to the public in a paper entitled “Open data from heritage collections and citizen collaboration at the Complutense University Library”, highlighting this as a successful example of collaboration and citizen science.

In summary, throughout the day it became clear that the synergy between libraries, universities and research centres is the essential driving force behind scientific progress in the digital age.The full recording of the event is available on YouTube via this link, whilst the full programme can be checked here.
