ORGANIZATION, COMPOSITION AND TASKS OF THE QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM

The sole Responsible for ensuring the internal quality of the qualifications offered at the Philology Faculty will be the Dean or his delegate, who chairs the Quality Committee of the Center. The Quality Commission of the Center will be responsible for the high quality of the courses taught at the Philology Faculty.

With specific powers in the Masters, the Quality Commission of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication is the maximum responsible for the quality objectives of the master.

The tasks of the Quality Commission of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication are, among others:

• Monitoring the Inner Quality Assurance system of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (UCM).

• Managing and coordinating every aspect related to the aforementioned system.

• Monitoring and evaluating the quality objectives of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (UCM).

• Making and monitoring proposals for future revision and improvement of the degree.

• Proposing and modifying the quality objectives of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (UCM).

• Gathering information and evidence regarding the development and implementation of the training program of the degree (objectives, development of the teaching and learning and others).

•Managing the Information System of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (UCM).

• Establishing and setting the quality policy of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (UCM) in accordance with the quality policy of the Centre (Philology Faculty) and with the quality policy of the UCM.

Specifically, it is in charge of the following tasks:

• Elaborating an annual Report of the actions undertaken by the Commission.

• Elaborating an annual report regarding the development of the teaching activities in the Degree, as well as an improvement plan of the degree, which will be addressed to the Board of the Faculty for its approval.

• Elaborating reports on the monitoring of the application of the improvements proposed and approved by the Board of the Faculty.

• Adopting measures and, in given cases, resolutions related to the reported complaints and suggestions.

• Adopting the modification proposal of the Regulations of the Quality commission.

• All the remaining tasks considered in the Quality Assurance System of the Degree, as well as those tasks attributed to the Commission by the few provisions issued in application of that System and expressly attributed to the Commission.

Implemented improvements

The Quality Commission of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication has among its objectives proposing teaching and management improvements specific for the Masters. In collaboration with the Coordination commission of the Masters, some of the improvements implemented from the academic year 2014-2015 onwards are the following:

• Improvement of the document on the procedure and orientations for the elaboration and presentation of the Final Dissertation Paper.

• Implementation of the changes in the Master’s webpage in the Masters Study Portal of the Philology Faculty.

• Enhancement of the visibility of the Final Theses of the MA in English Linguistics:

New Applications and International Communication by publishing them in e-prints, compiling all their links in a section of the Masters’ webpage, since the start of the Masters: https://www.ucm.es/ma-elnaic/masters-dissertations-publishing

• Creation of a Coordination and Staff Space of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication (Seminar) in the Virtual Campus of the UCM, so as to diversify the communication and dissemination channels between the Coordination and the teaching staff that participate from the Masters.

• Diversification and enhancement of the dissemination of the information related to the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication during the different registration periods: elaboration and diffusion of the posters and informative brochures printed o in a digital format; organization of informative meetings previous to the registration periods oriented to the students of the Philology Faculty, etc.

• Measures to favor a higher adaptation to the choice of elective subjects to the students interests: reduction of the amount of subjects during the second semester to enable the students to work on their final dissertation papers; modification for the academic year 2016-2017 of the length of the classes of the second semester (2 hours a day in 2 days, instead of 1 hour and a half in 2 days as in the subjects of the first semester) so as to finish the classes beforehand to enable the students to work on their final dissertation papers.

• Delivery of informative talks on Mondays (the free-teaching day of the Masters) on the lines of research of the teachers of the English I Department of the Philology Faculty and by the teachers who will be teaching during the second semester in order to provide the students with a wide range of possibilities for their own research and final dissertation papers. Along this line, since the academic year 2017-2018 all the Master´s professors have participated in a Research Seminar (December, 2018; December, 2019; February, 2020).

• Elaboration of the document on the procedure for claims and academic conflict resolutions in July 2019 (see below).

- Organisation of a "Welcome Session",  where former Master´s students took part (academic year 2019-2020).

- Elaboration of a specific satisfaction questionnaire for Master´s students to assess the quality of guest lectures (academic year 2019-2020).

- Update of the Master´s leaflet (academic year 2019-2020).

- Adaptation of the student questionnaire to the online format (academic year 2020-2021)

 

Claims and Complaint System

The Quality Commission of the Masters will act ex officio or ex parte regarding the suggestions and observations that are likely to need of its intervention. Any party involved in the development of the Masters may address the Quality Commission of the Masters individually or collectively.

Procedure for claims and academic conflict resolutions

Satisfaction Surveys

Annually, the Complutense Quality and IT Services Office of the UCM provides support to the teachers, students and support staff of the degrees adapted to the European Space of Superior Education satisfaction surveys. The UCM Quality Office prepares the questionnaires and carries out the analytical treatment of the given information provided therein. The Quality Commission of the MA in English Linguistics: New Applications and International Communication receives and analyzes the results of the aforementioned surveys, together with other data and indicators provided by the Information System of the degrees, in order to perform, from them, revision proposals and other improvements in the degree.
