Ángel Vián Ortuño (1914-1999)

He received his bachelor's degree and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Madrid (1933 and 1942 respectively). He also received a second PhD in Industrial Chemistry, in 1946. He was professor of Technical Chemistry at the University of Salamanca from 1949 to 1955. In 1955, he served as Professor of Industrial Chemistry, Economics and Projects and became a tenured faculty member of the Academic Senate of the University of Madrid.

Dr. Vian was elected Rector of the Complutense University of Madrid in 1976 and would remain in his post until 1981. Prior to this appointment, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences from 1974 to 1976.
