As far as I  can remember, I had always wanted to study Veterinary Medicine. Lucky me I chose well!
It was a simple Microbiology project which led me to meet José (our group leader) and open my eyes to the molecular world. It had the answers (or not!) to my infinite questions.

I think that, the more elementary you get, the closer you are to understanding the wonders of Nature and Evolution.

So here we are, trying to figure out how our protagonist enzyme, the Integron-Integrase, transitioned from its ancestral activity, incorporating a whole new domain (I2) of 19 amino acids. That's evolutionary innovation, isn't it!

Besides, I am a steadfast defender of the concept One Health, and the importance of telling the society what we can do to contribute to the fight against the spreading of Antibiotic Resistance.
