PhD Position in Quantum Simulation and Computation with Ultracold Atoms in Tweezers at DIPC- Donostia International Physics Center

We are launching a new ultracold atom experiment utilizing dysprosium atoms in programmable optical tweezer arrays. This state-of-the-art platform will incorporate a quantum gas microscope and other cutting-edge technologies.

The project aims to advance the frontiers of neutral-atom quantum architectures by exploring the use of novel atomic species, such as dysprosium, which offer promising avenues for expanding operational schemes in quantum simulation and computation. Core equipment is already in place, and the experimental design and feasibility studies have been successfully completed.

This initiative is part of a strong collaboration between DIPC and the University of Innsbruck (Austria), fostering a dynamic exchange of expertise. As the experiment is still in its formative stage, you will have the rare opportunity to shape its development, contribute original ideas, and acquire hands-on experience across the full experimental stack—from laser cooling and trapping to high-resolution imaging and Rydberg excitation.
