Criteria and Grades

THE ORAL DEFENSE

All students will have to defend their dissertation publicly before an Assessment Committee. The defense should be carried out in English and should last up to 15 minutes.Once the presentation finishes, the members of the committee have the right to make some observations and ask the questions they believe appropriate.

 

WRITING AND ORAL ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The written paper will be assessed according to the following criteria:

(a) Formality and organization. Also, linguistic correctness and clear expository writing.

(b) Original research topic and objectives/hypotheses clearly formulated.

(c) Methodology adapted to the objectives previously posed.

(d) Coherence in both the approach and development of the subject. Accurate use of concepts/terminology and methods. Precision in the analysis/translation and the reasoning.

(e) Discussion of implications and theoretical aspects within the topic selected. Critical thinking and original/personal contributions to the topic. Research valuable to the scientific community.

 

The oral defense will be assessed according to the following criteria:

(a) Clear presentation of the topic.

(b) Ability to synthesize the main ideas dealt with in the research paper.

(c) Ability to adapt, react and respond to the observations and questions posed by the Dissertation Committee.

 

Grades:

The grades awarded to the Dissertation will depend upon the Masters Academic Commission and will be as follows: MATRÍCULA DE HONOR (Honors), SOBRESALIENTE (Outstanding), NOTABLE (Mention), APROBADO (Pass), SUSPENSO (Fail) and NO PRESENTADO (Not taken)
