The Feminist Research Institute is an academic centre of Complutense University of Madrid. Our centre is an interdisciplinary one which involves quite a lot of Faculties from Complutense University and which collaborates with other Universities in Spain.
The Feminist Research Institute was approved by the University board council in 1988. Since that date our centre has been developing activities continuously; its main goal being spreading feminist thinking and gendered creation. It is our aim that women and their academic and socio-cultural contribution have an adequate and fair presence in University Studies. Besides, our centre is intended to encourage social and legal equality between men and women.
During these years (1988-2012) our University centre has carried out its social and scientific work through the creation and preservation of interdisciplinary researching teams on feminist criticism and Women´s studies.
Currently, it accounts for a monographic publishing, including a set of volumes, all of them focused on Feminist Studies. Moreover, the Institute also publishes an academic magazine –on line-, called:Feminist Research Review.
As for the field of teaching, the Institute also offers official studies, as well: Specialist Degree: Agent in gender-based violence detection and prevention and an official Master Degree in Feminist Studies, as well as workshops, seminars, conferences etc,.
Seventy five Lecturers, some of them Professors, belong to The Institute Council, whose board also accounts for other members from non- university cultural and social Institutions in order to combine both academic and administrative staff
