How can one increase the productivity of a process based on a thermodynamically limited reaction?
This sounds like a job for processintensification!
Through the use of a membrane pervaporation reactor, in situ water removal from the esterification of glycerol to triacetin has led to significant increases in yield and selectivity to this valuable biofuel additive.
Computer-aided process design and techno-economic analysis predict quite meaningful productivity increases of the process together with meaningful savings with respect to the use of a conventional batch reactor!
