Miguel Ladero Galán, Associate Professor

Prof. Miguel Ladero is a doctor in industrial chemistry with 27 years of experience in the development of enzymatic processes and bioreactors and associated professor at the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the UCM. He got his M.Sc. in chemistry in 1992. His Ph.D. thesis (1999) was focused on the hydrolysis of lactose based on the use of free and immobilized beta-galactosidases of several origins, applying new mathematical techniques to the modelisation of main phenomena taking place, including enzyme deactivation. Afterwards, his research has covered different aspects (process development, kinetic modelling, phenomenological studies) studying several microbial, enzymatic and catalytic systems as biodesulfurization, anaerobic and microaerobic bioprocesses to 2,3-butanediol, D-lactic, fumaric, succinic acids, sunscreen ingredients by thermal and catalytic procedures, plasticizers and prodrugs with industrial lipases, derivatives of rosin by esterification and disproportionation by catalytic and thermal processes, stabilization of enzymes by immobilization and reaction media engineering, development of thermal and catalytic green processes to derive carbonates and ketals from glycerol, and development of physicochemical and enzymatic processes in lignocellulosic/oleaginous integrated biorefineries, among other research lines, resulting, up to now, in 8 Ph.D. thesis presented, 5 ongoing Ph.D. thesis, and more than 100 Bs.C. and Ms.C. theses.

He is author or co-author of 76 SCI papers (40 SCI Q1; total 1941 citations; Google Scholar H-index 23). He is co-author of 68 communications to congresses in the last 7 years (13 oral/keynotes) and 1 international patent. He has participated in 21 competitive national and international projects and 7 private contracts with energy and chemical companies, being project leader in 5 of them. He is the spanish academic delegate in the Working Party in Process Intensification of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE). He is acting as project reviewer at Spanish National Research Agency, MINECO, ANEP, CONICET and CONICYT.
