Biorefineries are based on wastes revalorization, in FQPIMA we work with several partners belonging to food and agri-food industries which provide us with real wastes from their industries.

Our research is focussed on different kind of wastes:

• Orange Peel Wastes: Mainly formed by pulp and peel from oranges coming from orange juice production.
• Apple Pomace: Consisting on peel and clarification solid from apple juice production for cidder obtention.
• Grape wastes: Very different wastes comming from vinification process, highlighting grape pomace and grape stalks.
• Rice straw: Originating from rice harvesting.

From these different wastes, we develop different processes for their revalorization along different research lines:

• Elicitors production.
• Antioxidant and lignin extraction and modification.
• Enzimatic hydrolysis and saccharification.
