Immunohistochemistry and immunocitochemistry.

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is one of the most used biochemical technique in a basic research laboratory. It allows us to identify proteins selectively in cells of a tissue section thanks to specific antibodies which recognize them. We can visualize them because antibodies are conjugated with peroxidase or a fluorophore. IHC is used to observe the expression of a protein of interest as well as the location in the tissue. When this technique is performed in cell cultures it is called immunocytochemistry.
