Óscar Martínez de Quel is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Complutense University of Madrid.

He combined his academic career with his elite sport trajectory. He graduated in Sport and Exercise Sciences (1999) at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where he obtained a pre-doctoral scholarship to do his PhD Thesis entitled “Visual Reaction Time in Karate” (2003). As a post-doctoral fellowship he visited the Brain and Behaviour laboratory at Liverpool John Moores University. He also obtained a degree in Psychology (2005) at the Distance Education National University, specialized in Educational Psychology.

His research career started with the aim to understand and improve the human performance, specially in combat sports from the point of view of perception, cognition, motor control and physical fitness. He also investigated in the area of Physical Activity and Health, as a way of promoting exercise in order to improve physical and mental health among children and adolescents. Nowadays, his main research interest is the effects of physical activity on cognition.
