The Complutense Professor María Vallet, Jaume I Prize for Basic Research

María Vallet Regí, awarded the Jaume I Prize in Basic Research 2018 for her innovative work in the regeneration of bone tissues.

María Vallet Regí is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid, founder and director of the Intelligent Biomaterials Research Group at the Complutense University of Madrid, integrated into the Biomedical Research Centre in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine Network (CIBER BBN) and the Health Research Institute at the 12 de Octubre Hospital.

She has been the most cited Spanish scientist in the field of Materials Science for two decades. All because she was the first person in the world to prove the possibility of using mesoporous silica materials to transport drugs through the interior of the human body and release them in a controlled way where there are tumors or bone damage.
