My name is Marta Arpa Cabrera. I am currently doing my PhD in English Linguistics at the Department of English Language and Linguistics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). I graduated in English Philology and, a few years ago, I completed a Master in High Education at the Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM). I am currently working in the education field. I am a professor of English at university and I also teach Upper Secondary students.
At the moment, I am working on my PhD, which is focused on English in Medicine. Being considered as a type of language associated to English for Specific Purposes (ESP), the goal of the study is to analyse in which sense medical writing conventions can influence the way Spanish students of Medicine learn this foreign language, so that they are to be able to comprehend, and thus, produce medical texts in professional contexts. Other areas of interest are, for example, English as a Lingua Franca and the use of specific language in the classroom (teaching-learning process).
