Research interests: My research interests are the metallogenesis of ore deposits with spetial emphasis in the ore-forming processes of Ni-Cu-Platinum-Group Elements (PGE) magmatic sulfide deposits related to mafic-ultramafic magmas. Since many years, I have been studying the Aguablanca Ni-Cu ore deposit (Extremadura, SW Spain), the unique economic mineralization of this type present in western Europe, having been the main author of many research articles. I have also focused my investigation on 1) the role of arsenide melts as collectors of PGE in magmatic sulfide systems estimating the partition behaviour of PGE and other chalcophile elements (Au, Ag, Sb, Se, Te, ...) between arsenide and sulfide melts, and 2) the role of pyrite as carrier of PGE in different Ni-Cu-PGE ore deposits such as the Great Dyke of Zimbabwe, the Aguablanca Ni-Cu ore deposit (Spain) and the Platreef of the Bushveld Complex (South Africa). Current research programs also include epithermal Zn-Pb-Ag ore deposits, "Manto-type" Cu mineralizations and metalogenesis of REE and other critical metals.

Breve biografía profesional / Biography

From january 2002 to june 2006, I worked with a PhD Fellow in the Department of Crystallography and Mineralogy of the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, studying the Aguablanca Ni-Cu sulfide deposit. During this period, I carried out two short-term stays in foreign institution: three months in the Science Faculty of University of Oulu (Finland) and two months in the Physics Department of University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada). After my PhD Fellow and since then, I serve to the Department of Crystallography and Mineralogy as Assistant Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) with research and teaching duties. During may to august 2011, I was working with a José Castillejo Fellow in the Earth Materials Laboratory of Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (Quebec, Canada) in collaboration with Professor Sarah-Jane Barnes. Currently, my position is "Profesor Contratado Doctor" focusing the research on ore-forming processes and, particularly, the metallogenesis of PGE in magmatic sulfide deposits. I have been co-director of a PhD. thesis aiming the characterization of the Zn-Pb-Ag Patricia ore deposit in NE of Chile.
