Presentation of CirCoCreation in XXXI Inter-American Congress of Chemical Engineering and the XXXIII Colombian Congress of Chemical Engineering
15 JUL 2025 - 17:55 CET
Professor Carlos Negro from UCM participated in the XXXI Inter-American Congress of Chemical Engineering and the XXXIII Colombian Congress of Chemical Engineering, held from June 30 to July 3, 2025, in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia). During the event, he presented a poster titled: "Circular Economy Initiatives in Urban Construction: Development of New Bio-Based Materials. Challenges and Global Goals" ("Iniciativas de economía circular en la construcción urbana: desarrollo de nuevos materiales biobasados. Desafíos y metas globales").
The poster introduced, whithin CirCoCreation project, a key innovation related to the development of high-strength, moisture-resistant panels made from cellulose-based biomaterials. Using hot pressing techniques, the mechanical properties of paper materials can be enhanced by up to 180%, making them viable for structural applications in sustainable construction, such as radiant floor systems, and as an eco-friendly alternative to plastics.
