Fray Alonso de Burgos fue obispo de Cuenca entre 1482 y 1485, un breve período de tiempo que no impidió que el dominico dejara cierta huella en el templo conquense. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar las empresas artísticas de fray Alonso en la Catedral de Cuenca y aclarar cuál fue su aportación y en qué circunstancias se realizó. El conocimiento de su papel en la corte de los Reyes Católicos en paralelo al estado de la fábrica catedralicia permite comprender, tanto su escasa presencia en la diócesis, como su poca implicación en las obras de dicho templo. El presente artículo revisará la presencia de los escudos del prelado en la catedral, aportando para ello imágenes inéditas de los restos del triforio financiado por fray Alonso. También atenderá al espléndido cáliz con las armas del dominico conservado en el Museo Diocesano de Cuenca, ofreciendo una nueva lectura iconográfica de esta pieza.

Friar Alonso de Burgos was bishop of Cuenca between 1482 and 1485, but the shortness of his administration did not prevent the Dominican from leaving his mark on the city"s cathedral. The aim of this paper is to analyse the artistic patronage of Friar Alonso in the cathedral of Cuenca, and to shed light on what his contribution was and how it was carried out. The knowledge of its role in the Catholic Monarchs court, in parallel to the state of works in the cathedral, allows us to understand both his scarce presence in the diocese as well as his involvement in the construction of the building. This article will reexamine the presence of the coat of arms of this prelate in the Cathedral, along with unpublished images of the remains of the triforium funded by him. We will also deal with the magnificent chalice displaying the coat of arms of the Dominican, offering a second reading on the iconography of this silverware.
