Most courses are taught in French.
However, several courses and seminars are in Dutch or in English both during the

courses are given in French, except the translation courses. The list of courses taught in this Faculty is given on the following page. 
We do not require any official test proving the level of French (DELF--‐DALF…) or English (TOEFL--‐IELTS--‐Cambridge…) languages, but students are supposed to have a good knowledge in order to attend the classes and take the exams (minimum a B1 level in French and a B2 level in English). That’s why we ask language certificates issued by the home university of the incoming students.

The minimum score required by KU.
Leuven is 6.5.

With their application, students have to hand in proof of their language skills:In general, all official tests such as Goethe-Certificates, Test-DaF, TOEFL, IELTS etc. are accepted, as well as confirmations by a language teacher or the International Office of the partner university, or the ERASMUS language test.German language skills:We recommend a level of B2 in  German in order to follow academic courses taught in German.Please note that the medical faculty regards a German level of end of B2/beginning of C1 as the minimum language  requirement for their students, especially if they have patient contact.

Similar the department of German (not German as a Foreign Language of course) asks for German language knowledge on level B2/C1 since their courses are aimed towards native speakers.Therefore:a) Students with German knowledge of B2 (according to CEFR) or higher:- These students can come directly for the German-taught orientation program.- They can choose courses from both the German and the English-taught course program during the semester (for language pre-requisites in English, please see below).b)

Students with no German knowledge or German knowledge between A1 and B2 (according to CEFR) at the time of arrival:- These students are urgently advised to take part in the pre-semester intensive language course (ILC) that takes place in September/October and March/April. The course will take place on at least six different levels (A1-C1).-

Even after the ILC, the students will in all likelihood lack the necessary pre-requisites to successfully follow courses in German. They should therefore take courses from the English-taught program and/or further classes in German as a Foreign Language. We recommend that students have at least level B2 before they attend German-taught courses.- Students that cannot attend the ILC (due to e.g. an internship or incompatible term dates) can take part in the English-taught orientation program that takes place a few days before the start of the lecture period.English language skills:Students wishing to take courses from the English-taught course program should have English knowledge at level B2 (according to CEFR) or better.Please note:Students wishing to take courses from the English-taught course program in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Management Information Systems should have English knowledge at level B2/C1 (according to CEFR) or better.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants at the Faculty of Science and Technology are required to upload proof of English language proficiency.

You must upload your test result or your test registration receipt to your application through the application portal. If you receive your test result after the application deadline, you must upload your test result to your application no later than the documentation deadline October 10^th 2019.

You must take one of the tests below, and the test result must be no more than three years old at the time of application.

·        TOEFL: 
Paper-based test: at least 560
Internet-based test: at least 83

·        IELTS:
IELTS Academic test result of at least 6.5 points and equivalent of C1 level. 

·        Cambridge ESOL examinations
Cambridge English Advanced (grades A, B and C) or Cambridge English First (grade A) or 180 points as a minimum on the Cambridge English Scale.

You are exempt from uploading an English test if:

·        You are currently enrolled in an English-taught Bachelor’s or Master’s programme. Please be aware that you must upload a letter of confirmation from your home university.

·        The language test requirement has been waived in the exchange agreement with your university. Check with your university's exchange office.
