Review: All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Neuropterology will be reviewed by at least two referees. Final decisions on acceptance of manuscripts will be made by the Editorial Board.
Charges: Page and reprint charges have not yet been fixed. We are attempting to start with a first free issue.
Manuscript Preparation and Submission
General: Papers not conforming to the manuscript preparation guidelines presented below will be returned without review. Such manuscripts may be resubmitted after revisions have been made to bring them into conformance with the preparation guidelines.
Language: The Journal of Neuropterology prefers to publish in English. Manuscripts in Spanish, French, German and Italian will also be considered for publication.
Submission: The original and two copies of all manuscript text and tables should be sent to the Editor, along with three copies of all illustrations. Retain original illustrations until requested to remit them by the editor following manuscript acceptance. Papers should be double space typed and printed on one side of DIN A4 (or equivalent) paper sheets with 3 cm margins on all sides. Consecutively number all pages. Manuscript texts and tables (but not illustrations) may be submitted to the Editor as e-mail attachments. Contact the Editor for details.
First Page of Manuscript: The first page of the manuscript should contain (only) the following elements in the order listed: (1) Title - Give the title in the language in which the paper is written. If the paper is not in English, provide an English translation of the title. Use upper and lower case letters (not all capitals) in the title. Italicize the names of genus- and species-group taxa. In parentheses, reference the family and one higher taxonomic level as appropriate, e.g. (Neuroptera: Dilaridae). (2) Author(s) Name(s) - Give the name(s) of the author(s). Write forenames as initials and surnames in upper and lower case, e.g., M. Meinander, L.M. DiazAranda & J.D. Oswald. (3) Address(es) - Write the full mailing and e-mail addresses of each author. (4) Footnote(s) - Write the text of any footnote(s) that should appear on the first page, e.g. financial, research project, etc. Use footnotes only if absolutely necessary. (5) Keyword(s) - List up to six keywords. Keywords must be in English. (6) Summary - Provide a concise English summary of the paper. If the paper is written in a language other than English, also give a summary in the language of the text.
Manuscript Organization: The body of the manuscript text should be organized in sections in the following sequence: INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS & METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION or CONCLUSIONS, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS and REFERENCES CITED (write these headers in capitals). Additional subheadings may be included if they contribute to the organization or clarity of the paper. Footnotes are permitted only on the first page (see above). The style of the text should be clear and concise.
Citation of Generic and Specific Names: Cite the author and year publication of each generic and specific name where it is first used in the text. Subsequently, generic names may be abbreviated and author and year citations may be omitted wherever these changes do not cause ambiguity. Generic and species names must be written in italics.
Citation of Figures and Tables: Figures and tables referred to in normal sentence text should appear in non-abbreviated form, e.g. Figure 5; Table V. References to figures given in parentheses must be abbreviated, e.g. (Fig. 5). When figures and tables are referred to in general, with no designating number, use a lower-case letter, i.e. figure; table.
Citation of References: Capitalize author surnames in bibliographic references, e.g. BROOKS (1986); BARNARD (in: CANARD et al., 1984). If there are more than two authors, cite the first author followed by "et al." Separate page citations from the year by a colon, e.g. SNODGRASS (1935:117).
References Cited Section: This section should include only references actually cited in the text. Arrange entries alphabetically by author(s) name(s). Arrange identically authored papers chronologically, using alphabetical suffixes, e.g. 1980a; 1980b, where needed to distinguish papers with the same author(s) and year. For works published in languages that do not use the Roman alphabet, translate or transliterate the citation data into the language of the manuscript's text, followed in parentheses by an indication of the original language, e.g. (in Russian). Use the following citation formats for serial articles, books and chapters in books.
Serial Article: Give serial titles in full, do not abbreviate. Cite parts/numbers within a volume only if the parts/numbers are not continuously paginated within the volume.
BROOKS, S.J., 1986. A new genus of Ankylopterigini (Chrysopidae), Neuroptera International 4:3548.
Book:
SNODGRASS, R.E., 1935. Principles of insect morphology. McGraw Hill Book Co., New York, 667 pp.
Chapter in Book:
BARNARD, P.C., 1984. Adult Morphology related to classification. In: CARNARD,M., SEMERIA,Y. and NEW,T.R. Biology of Chrysopidae. W.Junk Publishers, The Hague, 1929.
Illustrations: Treat all illustrations, e.g. drawings, graphics, maps, photographs, etc., as figures. Number figures consecutively starting at "1" using Arabic numbers. Number tables using Roman numerals, e.g. III. Figures and tables must be submitted in correct order, arranged and composed in definitive white plates, ready to print. Plates must be proportional to the size of the text block of the journal, and no larger than 210 mm x 150 mm. All figures must be original. Photographs must be black and white, on good quality, glossy, high contrast paper. Other half-tone illustrations should be clear and exhibit good contrast. Drawings and other black-and-white line graphics must be cleanly executed and of high contrast in solid black on white paper. Include scale bars where appropriate. Mark plates on the back with the title of the paper and the author's name. Present each table on an unnumbered sheet ready to print.
Figure Captions and Table Headings: Use clear and concise wording. Submit figure caption and table heading lists on separate sheets. English translations of figure captions and table headings must accompany manuscripts not written in English.
New Species Descriptions: New species descriptions must clearly designate a primary type and cite basic type data, e.g. label data, depository, type locality, latitude and longitude coordinates (if known). The inclusion of a brief diagnosis before the description is encouraged. Arrange data for non-type specimens examined alphabetically by geographical unit, from larger to smaller units. Include the following data for each specimen: e.g.: SPAIN (country): Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, 450 m (province, locality, altitude), XII/23/1996 (date of collection), 1@, 2## (male and female number of studied specimens, using @ as male and # as female symbols), V.J. Monserrat (collector), at light (data on capture), M.N.C.N. (depository).
Measurements: Use of System International Units is required. Measurements should be carried to the same digit, e.g. 8.20 9.35, not 8.2 9.35.
Zoological Nomenclature: All manuscripts must conform fully to the rules of the current edition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.
