What does it mean to have a gifted child?

Gifted children present higher abilities than other children of the same age in different human activities.There are three basic traits which characterise successful, outstanding individuals. These traits are: creativity, superior general ability and high level of task commitment. The family, the school and the community influence in the childrenīs development.

What age it is possible to diagnose a gifted child?

Diagnosis could be done since children are three years old in specialised centres. Before children are three years old it is posible to detect high abilities through taking a look at the list of characteristics of young children.

   

What programs do exist for gifted children?

There are different choices for gifted children. To choose one or another depends on the opinion and the wish of the family and the child and also to consider the school, the diagnosis, the personal and emotional characteristics and the abilities of the child. There are interventions like: acceleration, curricular enrichment, clusters, or extra curricular enrichment programs.

How can I tell my child that he is a gifted child?

To tell your child that he or she is a gifted it is important to considera the personality of your child and the type of comunication you have with him or her. First you have to tell him /her that all the people are different and some people are more capable than other for doing certain things.
