The abundant and convincing evidences on climatic
change have originated in the last years a growing interest in
the study of climate in the past. The short length

of the instrumental records has increased the interest in
the use of climate reconstruction techniques like
dendrochronology, the study of the ice cores, the corals lake sediments, etc.
Among all of them, the use of documentary sources presents evident advantages, allowing
better temporal resolution than other most of the techniques. The interest shown by the
scientific community has also been reflected in our country, where, specially in the last five years,
numerous works have been developed in this direction. Thus, more than 30 papers have been published in
peer-reviewed journals. There have been several European with Spanish research groups and national projects in this subject.
However, the Spanish documentary sources are slightly explored in their double view: Reconstruction of the
Iberian Climate and reconstruction of the global climate. The present project has as objective
the creation of a thematic network promoting research in climate reconstruction from documentary sources,
improving the cohesion between each research group, improving the multi-disciplinary character involving the documentary
sources data archives with the research groups and increasing the diffusion of the obtained results and
the potential use of the documentary sources. Finally the network expects to contribute to the work of
each participating group in RECLIDO and tries to stimulate another research groups to participate in the
project.
It is a new initiative in our country in two senses: the scope and the multi-disciplinary character that includes climatology,
meteorology, history, geography, etc.
The main contents of the web will be: data bases, news interchange and diffusion of funding opportunities.
