This is José María Ortiz de Zárate Leira. I’m Associate Professor at the Applied Physics Department of the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain.

Professional:

Teaching. I’m currently teaching the courses: "Termodinámica I" (fall semester) for students majoring in Physics, and "Mecánica de los Medios Continuos" (spring semester) for students majoring in Geological Engineering.

Research: Long-range Correlations in Fluids Outside of Equilibrium.
                Measurement of Thermal conductivity of liquids by the hot-wire technique.

External consultancy: I also do some external consultancy, mainly on database management and maintenance. Some of my latest customers include:

This is me at Delft - South Holland. At the background you find the city gate painted by Johannes Vermeer in its famous 'View of Delf' canvas.

This is me at our backyard, while carefully studying the instructions of a recently purchased digital camera. My laptop is in the background. August 2003.  At Los Yébenes- Toledo. It is said that the windmill in the background is the one against which Don Quixote fought with courage his famous battle.

This is me (right) with Denis Funfschilling (then a postdoc with Guenter Ahlers), enjoying a cookout  at the beach of the campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara. March 2003. This is a wooden model of the battleship "Reina Regente", built by my grandfather when he graduated from the old carpenter's training school of the Spanish Navy at Ferrol (~1895). You may find it at the church of Our Lady of Centroña (Pontedeume-A Coruña-Spain).
In this picture I appear explaining Lourdes Vega (then of the University of Tarragona) my poster communication at FisEs-2002 (Spanish Conference on Statistical Physics). Note the magician's hands. June 2002 This is me at the famous Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. By the way, the car in the background (which is unlawfully parked) is the one I rented while in California. I hope the LAPD does not mind.
March - 2003.
This is me (right) with my friend Manolo Herrera (Dept. of Sociology, Univ. of Granada) at the Reflecting Pool of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. At that time Manolo was a postdoc at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore. June 1997.
This is me atop the south tower of the former WTC at New York City, looking north all over Manhattan. A historical picture indeed!. I take advantage to praise the memory of those who died. April 1997.
This is me, with Wenbin Li, Kaichang Zhang, their wives and the son of Wenbin, enjoying a cookout at Jan Sengers house at Baketon (WV). Wenbin and Kaichang were Sengers postdocs at the time. August 1994.
