In this paper, we discuss some aspects of sex discrimination in the labour market. In the first section, we explain the meaning and the different types of statistical discrimination. In the main section, we apply Akerlof´s model (market for lemons) to the labour market and then, consider the problems related to asymetry of information. Finally, we look at the solutions given by the law for solving the problem and the alternative strategies suggested to reduce the lack of employers’ information concerning the individual productivity of potential employees.
