The history of International Relations
is a young cientific discipline in Spain, recently
included in academic studies and misunderstood in
many cases by colleagues that confuse it with anecdotical
descriptions of diplomatic negotiations, wars and
treaties. Nevertheless, in the last five years,
the International relations have become a significant
discipline in the Spanish historiographic outlook.
Today we can see a new interest,
nonexistent in the old study plans, and in the teaching
staff to face the scientific aspirations of our
students, who are privileged participants, both
in international topics from the past and in current
matters.
On the other hand, it is also true
the increase of books and papers published on this
subject of study and investigation. This fact can
be confirmed by just consulting any catalogue or
database. Publications should get over the descriptive
analytic phase; confront the feared epistemologic
challenge in social science; open up to other disciplines
in order to achieve the desired interdisciplinarity
and, in one word, they should tackle new subjects,
not considered today.
The investigation group of international
relations in history has been approved by the Comunidad
of Madrid and the Universidad Complutense of Madrid.
It is constituted by plenty multidisciplinary investigators,
and pretends to cover several investigation areas
such as:
Apart from the projects that are
being carried out, the Group is working on events
and publications. This fullfills our wish to make
such a nice, important and present discipline publically
known.
