Un magnífico compendio de textos referidos a la utilización de las redes de comunicación en el ámbito académico. Obra de reciente aparición, nos permite apreciar el recorrido, las experiencias y las aplicaciones de este nuevo medio. Prácticamente, se abordan todos los aspectos surgidos alrededor del fenómeno de las redes: desde la experiencia en clases virtuales hasta las formas de investigar los nuevos tipos de comunidades, pasando por las publicaciones académicas electrónicas o la colaboración de científicos a través de sistemas informatizados.
Los estudios se centran fundamentalmente en la descripción de las experiencias que se han realizado en la construcción de grupos de trabajo, comunidades y proyectos de muy diverso tipo en las redes. Sin ningún tipo de apasionamiento visionario, se describen las ventajas, los inconvenientes y las limitaciones que han aparecido durante la creación y vida de los proyectos.
Probablemente, una de las obras más completas, tanto por la variedad de casos como por sus diferentes planteamientos, que pueden encontrarse en estos momentos sobre el mundo de las redes en su vertiente académica (investigación y docencia). Nos permite evaluar el grado de implantación alcanzado en este terreno en diversos campos y especialidades (ciencias sociales, humanidades, etc.) y su futuro desarrollo.
