Finding Your FrontPageTools Web Template

This program has automatically unzipped your template.  Your template was copied into the following template directory on your hard drive:

C:\FPT\Templates\

If you modified the installation to a different directory, please make a note of your different location.

Opening Your Template in FrontPage

To open this template in FrontPage:

1) start FrontPage
2a) FrontPage 2002 users: go to the menu and click File, then Open Web
2b) FrontPage 2003 users: go to the menu and click File, then Open Site
3) FrontPage will then open a dialog box.  At the top of the dialog, next the the words "Look in:" is a drop-down box.  From there you can browse to the location where the template was copied. 

  By default the location will be at: C:\FPT\Templates\[name of file]

where [name of file] is a directory that is the same name as the file you downloaded.  For example, if you downloaded template t00001fpt002.exe, your template will be located in directory C:\FPT\templates\t00001fpt002.

 

4) once you've browsed to the directory, click the "Open" button on the bottom right-hand side of the dialog box

Note: if a dialog box pops up and asks "FrontPage needs to add information to your folder in order to help manage your Hyperlinks and other site content..." Choose Yes.

Special Template Features

This template has been enable with an auto-menu system which is both easy to use and compatible with Site Build It's HTML Upload feature.  If you are not planning on using this menuing system or Site Build It, you can delete the menus from the pages and implement another method.

Changing Menu Links
-------------------------
In the "support-files" folder you will find a file called "settings.js".  In FrontPage, double click on the file and it will open within a text editor.  

You can simply change the names on the links within this file.  You will find instructions in this file.

By modifying "settings.js" the links are updated automatically to all pages of the current template.

Modify all text and/or graphics to fit your needs. Don't forget to save your work!

Using with Site Build It!

Site Build It (SBI) has introduced a new feature which now allows you to upload HTML pages to your Site Build It web site.  This template has been specifically designed to work with Site Build It's (SBI) new HTML Upload feature.

For more information on using the Site Build It (SBI) HTML features, log into your SBI account, under "site central" click on the "Upload Your Own HTML Page" button, then read the instructions under "STEP 1: Prepare Your Page for SBI!" Making special note of the "Before You Build Your Page -- Special Rules."

General Guidelines for Editing SBI Upload Templates in FrontPage 2002/2003

This template has already been formatted to meet the SBI HTML rules.  If you follow the FrontPage 2002 or 2003 settings below and the General Guidelines, you should have no trouble implementing your template with SBI.

FrontPage 2002 Settings

By making the following settings in FrontPage 2002 you will have an easier time when editing your web site for the SBI.

Browsers: Both Internet Explorer and Navigator
Browser Versions: Custom
Servers: Apache Server
Ensure the "Enabled with Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions" is not checked.

Under "Available Technologies..."  The bolded items should be checked, the rest should not be checked.
