The quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) signal has been diagnosed in an atmospheric
general circulation model (GCM) climate simulation. The detected QBO-like
signal is four times lower than actually observed, allowing a masking effect
of the expected quasi-biennial inversion in the lower stratosphere zonal
wind by the easterly mean flow. The simulated QBO agrees well with the
observations, both in phase and latitudinal range. Some features on the
QBO-sea surface temperatures (SST) relationship are also described.
