General information

An informative meeting will be held on the first day of every course at 9:30. Then, the students will take a language level test.

General Course (July, 5. - 30.)

The aim of this course is to initiate and develop the knowledge of Spain and Spanish culture in all its aspects.

This course consists of four (4) hours per day in the Spanish Language (9:00 - 13:00 Monday to Friday)

  • 9:00 h. Grammar I (theory)
  • 10:00 h. Grammar II (practice)
  • 10:50 h. Break.
  • 11:10 h. Reading and writing skills.
  • 12:10 h. Listening and speaking skills.

Classes are given at three different levels: beginners, intermediate, and advanced. All classes are held in small groups. Extensive use will be made of the Language Laboratory for the lower levels.

After the classes (at 13:10) the following optional activities will take place:

Series of lectures:

  • Spain in the 20th Century.
  • Flamenco: Culture and Music.
  • Keys to Spanish Contemporary Culture.
  • Spanish 20th Century Drama.
  • Sociological Aspects of Spain today.

Intensive Courses. Intensive I (July, 5. - 16.). Intensive II (July, 12. - 30.)

These courses are designed for those who wish to get started in the study of Spanish or to improve their command of it in a short period of time.

Every course (Intensive I: two-week long, Intensive II: three-week long) will have four (4) obligatory class periods daily (9,00-13,00 a.m., Monday trough Friday):

  • 9:00 h. Grammar I (theory)
  • 10:00 h. Grammar II (practice)
  • 10:50 h. Break.
  • 11:10 h. Reading and writing skills.
  • 12:10 h. Listening and speaking skills.

Advenced Course (July, 5. - 30.)

This course is aimed specifically at advanced students of Spanish, graduates and teachers of Spanish. The objective is the presentation and study of several monographic topics of the Spanish language and the literature of Spain and of Hispano-America.

It will consists of four hours per day (from 9:00 to 13:00 and from Monday to Friday) covering the following subjects:

  1. The play by Federico García Lorca.see Program
  2. Teaching spanish: essay writing techniques.see Program
  3. Pedagogica grammar.see Program
  4. Lexicon and spanish dictionaries.see Program
  5. Spanish literature in the films of Pilar Miró.see Program
  6. Miró y Dalí, two geniuses of surrealism.see Program
  7. Rock, literature, comics and art of madrid nightlife.see Program
  8. Mistical and visionary in medieval and renaissance spanish.see Program

After the classes (13:10 h.) several series of optional lectures will take place, offering students knowledge of certain relevant aspects of the Spanish culture.

Note

Students of the Postgraduate Course who attend the optional lectures at 13.10, including those for commercial Spanish, will be able to obtain the corresponding credits subject to a test.

Cultural Activities

A Student ID card, will be given to students at registration on arrival. This card will give students the same advantages as Spanish students, i.e.: libraries, travel, sports facilities. (See Guia Básica for foreign students of Spanish, published by Universidad Complutense).

Every Saturday, day-trips by bus will be organized. These trips will be guided by teachers of the courses. These will be from Madrid to various towns of historical and artistic interest (Toledo, Segovia, La Granja, El Escorial, etc). The price of the trips is not included in the registration fees.

Throughout the courses, various cultural visits in Madrid will be organized. Also, from 5th to 16th July, from 4.00 pm to 6 pm, a workshop on Elaboration of didactic units will take place.
