GENERAL COURSE IN SPANISH
LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

Register and prices

General information

An informative meeting will be held the first day of every course at 9:30 a.m. Immediately afterwards, a language placement test will be administered to those students in the General and Intensive Courses.

Course

The aim of this course is to initiate and develop the knowledge of Spain and Spanish cultural in all aspects.

The course will consist of four (4) class periods daily in Spanish Language (9,20 - 13 a.m., Monday trough Friday).

  • 9:00 h. Grammar I (Theory).
  • 10:00 h. Grammar II (Practice).
  • 10:50 h. Break.
  • 11:10 h. Comprehension and written skills.
  • 12:10 h. Comprehension and oral skills.

Instruction is given in three different levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. All classes do have small groups. Extensive use will be made of the Language Laboratory in the lower classes.

After the classes (at 13,10) the following optional activities will take place the next series of lectures:

  • Spain in the 20th Century.
  • Flamenco: Culture and Music.
  • Keys to Spanish Contemporary Culture.
  • Spanish 20th Century Drama.
  • Sociological Aspects of Present-day Spain.

Those students who wish it may also attend all lectures and Commercial Spanish lessons (13,10 hrs.).

Note

At the same hour (13,10) an optional course on the Language of Commercial Spanish will be offered. The students attending the voluntary lecturers at 13.10, Commercial Spanish included, will be given the assigned credits, once passed the test.

Cultural activities

A Student ID card will be given to students during the in person registration on arrival. This card will allow students the same advantages as th Spanish students have, i.e.: libraries, travels, sport facilities, (See Guía Básica for foreign students of Spanish, published by Universidad Complutense).

Every Saturday excursions by bus will by organized. These excursions will be conducted by theachers of the Courses from Madrid to different towns of historic/artistic interest (Toledo, Segovia and La Granja, El Escorial, etc.). Excursions are not included in the basic registrations fee.

During the courses several cultural tours will be arranged in Madrid. Besides , a Cycle of Spanish Cinema will take place at the assembly hall of the central building (headquarters of the courses), Facultad de Filología, Edificio A. Theachers will conduct discussions after every movie.
