ADVANCED COURSE IN SPANISH
LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Register and prices

General information

An informative meeting will be held the first day of every course at 9:30 a.m. Immediately afterwards, a language placement test will be administered to those students in the General and Intensive Courses.

Course

The course is specially designed for students with a good knowledge of Spanish (advanced level), graduate students and teachers of Spanish. It will deal with several monographic subjects in Spanish Language & Literature, and Latin American Literature.

The course will consist on four (4) class periods daily (9,00 - 13,00 a.m., Monday trough Friday) including the following subjects:

  1. The Literature of Siglo de Oro (Golden Age): Cervantes.
  2. Teaching of Spanish language: Morphology.
  3. Linguistic varieties: The Spanish Language in America.
  4. Spanish Semantics.
  5. Methodology of the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
  6. Spanish Literature and Cinema.
  7. Coloquial Spanish.
  8. Historical evolution of the Spanish Language.
  9. Teaching of Spanish Language: Syntax.
  10. Contemporary Spanish Women Novelists.
  11. Teaching of Spanish Language: Writing Technics.
  12. The Teaching of Spanish Literature: Metodology and Analysis of Texts.
  13. Death in the Middle Ages: The Arts, Literature and Thought.
  14. Federico García Lorca: Poet and Dramatist.
  15. Posmodernity and narrative.
  16. Realism in Contemporany Latin American Drama.

After the classes (13,10 h.) several lectures will be given -optional attendance-. These lectures are intended to provide students with some knowledge of the outstanding aspects in Spanish Culture.

Note

At the same hour (13,10) an optional course on the Language of Commercial Spanish will be offered. The students attending the voluntary lectures at 13.10, Commercial Spanish included, will be given the assigned credits, once passed the test.

Cultural activities

A Student ID card will be given to students during the in person registration on arrival. This card will allow students the same advantages as th Spanish students have, i.e.: libraries, travels, sport facilities, (See Guía Básica for foreign students of Spanish, published by Universidad Complutense).

Every Saturday excursions by bus will by organized. These excursions will be conducted by theachers of the Courses from Madrid to different towns of historic/artistic interest (Toledo, Segovia and La Granja, El Escorial, etc.). Excursions are not included in the basic registrations fee.

During the courses several cultural tours will be arranged in Madrid. Besides , a Cycle of Spanish Cinema will take place at the assembly hall of the central building (headquarters of the courses), Facultad de Filología, Edificio A. Theachers will conduct discussions after every movie.
