New control needs in
the integral water cycle of XXI century |

During the last decades, important
advances to solve the control and treatment of conventional contaminants,
generated during human and industrial activities, have been carried out.
Present regulations control extensively these contaminants and the
chemical science and technology have contributed a great number of
solutions for their effective control. |
| |
|
| |
Scientific and technical developments,
joined to sanitary advances, allows discerning new challenges in the
present and future quality control of waters in their integral cycle.
The new analitical techniques allow detecting substances at very low
concentration levels, making possible to analyze more in depth, the
behaviour of micro or emerging contaminants, which were not possible to
detect only some years ago. The emerging contaminants include a great
variety of substances which are used in different application fields
such as: wastes from human or animal pharmaceuticals, endocrine
disruptors, drugs, pesticides, ingredients of personal care products,
biocides, fluoride compounds, disinfection by-products or nanomaterials. |
| |
|
| |
The presence of these compounds in waters implies many
technical and institutional challenges for the society, the environment
and the professionals of the sector. Being aware of the importance of
the contribution of the scientific and technical community to solve this
problem and the need to develop further knowledge to control possible
problems related to these contaminants in the future, in the frame of
the the 7th International
Congress of ANQUE, which will be held from 13rd to 16th June 2010, an
international symposium on "Emerging contaminants: new control needs in
the integral water cycle of the XXI century" has been organized.
