Puerto de la Cruz, only 30
minutes by road from the provincial capital, Santa Cruz, lies in the
beautiful and fertile Oratava Valley in the verdant north of the island. It
is gilded by the sun, cooled by pure sea-breezes, and has a black-ground to
a setting of great natural loveliness -the peak of Teide, at 3,718 m,
the highest mountain in Spain.
Puerto de la Cruz is a town with many attractive places
worthy of a visit, for instance: the Chapel of San Telmo, the old Customs
House, the fishing harbour area, "La Ranilla", the fortress of San Felipe,
San Amero, San Antonio,
Taoro Park with its modern casino, La Paz residencial area and the Botanical
Gardens, founded in 1788, where you can admire plants from five continents.
A frequent bus service connects Puerto de la
Cruz with other towns and villages on the island.
Cultural activities are given great weight in the city´s day-to-day life.
All year round, there are concerts, recitals, courses, exhibitions and
artistic shows.
